Beach trash to Bush treasure
One of the most precious things about what we do is all the special people that we get connected to and draw inspiration from. Reshma and Sam are embarking on a wonderful journey and grateful to have a small flipflopi footprint on the slopes of Mount Kenya thanks to their vision…thank you Reshma for sharing a part of the magic …
We are in the process of building something magical that we hope to share with people who love the wild, love camping, and love being immersed in a lovely ecosystem, up in Laikipia. Our dream is to keep everything as low-footprint or upcyled/recycled as possible, in line with our own values of protecting and regenerating the wild.
When we were envisioning what we wanted, we dreamt of a beautiful pergola covered in fragrant flowers, under which there would be a beautiful table that people could gather around, to have meals, to play games, and just be. We did feel though that we did have a big issue – termites! Also, we wanted to ensure we were sustainable and so we needed to ensure our materials were sustainably sourced. We spoke to Dipesh and Katharina, and together, co-created the idea of creating a pergola and dining area that stood for our very essence and values of protecting the earth – why not make it out of the plastic lumber that the Flipflopi team was starting to make – and why not have a dining set that represented our Gujarati-Swahili-Kenyan history- one that the Flipflopi designed!
The team was so very incredible, and we are so happy to have the most incredible dining set (table, benches and chairs) that weathers all elements, and that stands so beautifully next to Mount Kenya! We are still a while away from opening this space to the public, but when we do, I am sure the Flipflopi dining set, sunbeds and pergola will be such a hit – we have also been thinking about putting up some information around it about the incredible work of FlipFlopi!
Thank you so much team! We cannot wait to see what else we can co-create together!
