JOIN OUR MOVEMENT AGAINST PLASTIC POLLUTION
Turning the plastic tap off is essential to protecting the health of our citizens and biodiversity.
PLASTICS KNOW NO BORDERS
And they’re taking over East Africa’s shared resources.
Data dating as far back as 2013 showed the presence of microplastics in 1 out of every 5 Nile Perch found in Lake Victoria, a crucial protein source for millions of East Africans.
Further research on board the Flipflopi found micro-plastics in 100% of locations tested, and higher amounts in areas where legislation against SUP’s are not properly implemented.
that’s why we’re calling for regional action
7/8 East African Community member states have in place legislation against certain single-use plastics.
Together with Africa’s largest legal alliance, ALN, we’ve drafted a single-use plastics bill that extends the ban to the sale and production of certain destructive, unnecessary and easily replaceable single-use plastics.
Legislators from 7 EAC countries, the Queen of Buganda Kingdom and more than 16,000 people have joined our call to action. Now, we’re calling on you to make your voice count towards protecting our citizens and biodiversity from plastic pollution.
